Ronald W. "Ron" Mitchell, 78, of Lorain, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017 at University Hospital, Cleveland following a lengthy illness.
Born July 2, 1938 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, he came to Lorain over 55 years ago.
Ron worked at Lorain Works US Steel for 20 years retiring in 2000. He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104 and enjoyed working on and collecting classic cars.
Surviving is his wife of 29 years, Rena (nee Brewer); a daughter, Victoria Mitchell of Largo Bay, Florida; 2 granddaughters; a brother, Gerald (Alice) Mitchell of Avon Lake; sister in law, Barb Mitchell and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald N. Mitchell in 1995; his parents, James Mitchell and Etta (nee Dillinger) Hoopes; brothers, James Mitchell, Domer Mitchell and Richard Mitchell; and a sister, Diane Hoopes.
Private funeral services were held with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Andrew Goins, pastor of First Baptist Church, Elyria officiate. The Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialist, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, handled the arrangements. To send online condolences go to
