Rosa Hernandez

Rosa Hernandez (nee Cantu) 83 of Lorain, passed away Friday, April 5, 2013, at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
Born August 21, 1929 in Victoria, Texas, she came to Lorain in 1951.
Rosa worked as the head cook at Ohio Extended Care, Lorain for 20 years, retiring in 1992. Prior to that, she worked as a cook at various local nursing facilities in Lorain. She also worked as a housekeeper for many private homes.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, and the Mexican Mutual Society. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, bingo and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving is her husband of 22 years, Piedad; sons, Elmer Garza of San Antonio, Texas, Ernest Garza of Lorain, Edward Garza of North Carolina, Richard Garza of Lorain, and Gilbert Garza of Houston, Texas; and a daughter, Norma Hess-Alcala of Lorain; 24 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deana G. "Nani" Ybarra in 2011; and a son, Henry Garza.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4:00 - 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday at 10:15 am in the funeral home followed by mass at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. William Thaden, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
