Ruth E. Stanchak (nee Zvara), age 84, of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Autumn Aegis Retirement Community, Lorain, following a short illness.
Born July 8, 1931 in Amherst, she lived in Lorain her entire life. She graduated from Lorain High School.
Ruth worked in purchasing and dietary at the former St. Joseph Hospital in Loran for 24 years, retiring in 1995. Prior to this, she worked in the employment office at Bendix in Elyria for several years. She enjoyed cross stitch and reading.
Surviving are her sons, David W. (Diane) of Tonawanda, NY and Richard W. of Lorain; 2 grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred Mecera of Pittsburgh, PA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Stanchak in 1995; brothers Andrew Zvara, Raymond Zvara, John Zvara and Danny Zvara; and sisters, Gizella Valko, Lillian Holmes, Judith Gerlich, Mary Milicic, Pauline Spooner and Julie Liptak.
Private graveside services were held Friday at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, handled the arrangements. To send online condolences go to
