Ruth M. Widdowson

Ruth M. Widdowson, 63, of Lorain, died Saturday, January 1, 2011 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Avon, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Oct. 21, 1947 in Fairview Park, Ohio, to the late Charles L. and Helen Emma (nee Walker) Widdowson. Ruth graduated from Columbia High School in 1965 and furthered her education in sales in Eustis, Fla.
She worked as a cook at The Pit Family Restaurant in the 1980's. Ruth was a member of Columbia Baptist Church, and the Lake Erie Moose Lodge 552, Lorain. While living at Kennedy Plaza in Lorain, she served on the tenant council, as sergeant of arms, and as activity director.
She enjoyed bowling, reading, horseback riding, and traveling. She also loved nature and animals, genealogy and working on her family tree, history with a special interest in the civil war, and antiques.
Surviving are her brothers, Rowen of Ashland, and Roger of Cape Coral, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Ralph, in 1952.
Graveside services will be Friday at 1:30 pm in Columbia Township Cemetery. Rev. Phillip Betts, pastor of Columbia Baptist Church will officiate. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, is handling the arrangements.
