Sally Gonzalez, (nee Gutierrez), age 68, of South Amherst, joined the Lord on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Akron City Hospital, unexpectedly.
She was born on February 8, 1941 in Mexico City, Mexico, moving to Lorain in 1950 and South Amherst in 1974.
She graduated from Lorain High School in 1961. Sally obtained an Associates Degree in Business, she also attended Lorain Community College.
She was employed as a social worker for Lorain County Human Services, retiring in 2001 after 28 years of service. She also assisted the Lorain County office on Aging & also worked at the Lorain County Neighbor House.
Sally was a member of Church on the North Coast.
She was a member of the MACC (Mexican American Citizen's Club) in her younger years. She was crowned the Mexican Queen for the International Festival. She also was a member of the Quilting Club, "Uniquely Made" and volunteered at Amherst Hospital.
Sally was an artist, painting with oils and water colors, an avid quilter and bird lover. She enjoyed all crafts, gardening and especially herb gardening.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Henry Gonzalez, mother, Camerina Gutierrez, (nee Ambrosio) , son, Erick "Gonzo" Gonzalez, of Lorain, daughters, Sybil Gonzalez, Long Beach, CA, Emily Opheim, Amherst, 4 grandchildren, Jessica Gonzalez, of Chicago, Autumn Gonzalez, of Amherst, Tony Gonzalez, of Flagstaff, Arizona, Hunter Opheim, of Amherst, brothers, Rudy Gutierrez, of Brunswick, Dennis Gutierrez, of Oberlin, Vincent Ruben, of Breinigsville, PA, sisters, Martha Ambrosio, of San Diego, CA, Carmerina Hernandez, of St. Ann, MO, and Laura Hritsko, of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dionisio Gutierrez in 1993, sister, Delia in 1945, brother, Jorge in 1939 and brother Richard in 2006.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 19, 2009 from 4-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Louis Kayatin, pastor of Church on the North Coast, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
