Salvatore Anthony Coviello, 85, of Lorain, died Monday, December 4, 2006 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born May 2, 1921 in Uniontown, PA; living in Lorain since 1955.
He served in the US Marine Corp during World War II. He participated in action in Guam and Okinawa and was awarded the certificate of satisfactory service and the World War II Victory Medal.
Salvatore worked as a machine operator at B.F. Goodrich in Avon Lake for 28 years, retiring in 1982. Prior to that he worked in coal mine in Pennsylvania before World War II and as a salesman in Uniontown, PA for five years after World War II.
He was a member of St. John Roman Catholic Church, Lorain, and the Italian American Veterans Post 1. He enjoyed bowling, singing gardening, and home maintenance and repairs.
Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Mary L. (nee DiLuciano); sons, Anthony Coviello of West Palm Beach, Florida, Robert D. Coviello of San Juan Capistrano, California, Rocco Coviello of West Palm Beach, and Joseph Coviello of Dallas, Georgia; daughters, Denise O'Gorman of Dallas, Georgia and Kim Miller of St. Augustine, Florida; 12 grandchildren; a brother, William Coviello of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
She was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Coviello in 1969, and Antonetti (nee Mack) Coviello in 1967; his son, Sal Coviello in 2005; brothers, Rocky, Nick, and Don; sisters, Nell Manzella in 2005, Dorothy Siegman in 2002, Anna Marie Hornsby and Sally Coviello.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Roman Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Thomas Smith, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Italian American Veterans Post 1 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
