Samuel J. "Slick" Viers, 80, of Lorain, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
Born June 16, 1935 in Clinchco, Virginia, he graduated from Clinchco High School in 1953 then came to Lorain in 1956.
Samuel retired as a mill right for Lorain Works US Steel in 1997 after 30 years of service. Prior to that, he worked for the Lorain Shipyard.
He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104. Samuel enjoyed horse racing and spending time with his family.
Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Delsie (nee Mihajlovich); his daughters, Terri Smith of Lorain, Laryssa Deskins of Amherst Township, and Shannon Westfall of Lorain; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Vernie (nee Deel) Viers; sons, David Mihajlovich in 2005 and Everett Viers in 1976; and a sister, Eva Faye Edwards.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 - 3:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 am in the funeral home. Rev.
