Sandra J. Asik (nee-Kovanes), 62, of Vermilion, died Saturday, October 15, 2005 at her residence, following a sudden illness.
Born on August 7, 1943 in Lorain, Mrs. Asik had lived in Vermilion since 1974, coming from Lorain. She was a 1961 graduate of the Lorain High School. In 1965, she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Ohio University. She later received her Master of Science Degree from Bowling Green State University. She had been employed for 30 years by the Lorain City School System as a first grade and kindergarten teacher. She was a member of SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Lorain; a member of the Pan-Orthodox Women of Lorain County and a member of the Sister's of St. Xenia. A charter-member of the Vermilion Drinking and Debating Society. She was a certified Master Gardener thru Ohio State University. She was a volunteer for the Lorain City Schools. She enjoyed gardening, playing bridge and all types of craft works.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years- Raymond J. Asik; a daughter- Annmarie Greer of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; a son- Matthew Asik of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; 2 grandchildren- Alexander Greer and Connor Greer; a sister- Helen Amato of Avon Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents- Thomas P. and Anna (nee-Puzuhanich) Kovanes; a sister- Marguerite Laurenti; a brother- Thomas Kovanes.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 17, 2005 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where a Parastas service will be held at 7:30 p.m.. Friends may also call again on Tuesday, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 10:00 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church at East 32nd Street and Gary Avenue, Lorain.
The Very Rev. Basil Stoyka, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
