Santos Romero, 75, of Lorain, died Thursday, October 12, 2006 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain following a short illness.
He was born July 28, 1931 in Moca, Puerto Rico; moving to Brooklyn, New York, before settling in Lorain in 1949.
He served in the US Army during the Korean War.
Santos worked for the Ford Motor Co., Brookpark Engine Plant #2 for 44 years, retiring in 1993. While living in Puerto Rico, he owned and operated a grocery store. In Lorain, he was involved in the establishment of many businesses.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, the United Auto Workers Union Local 1250, and the Puerto Rican Home, Lorain.
He enjoyed playing dominos.
Surviving are his sons, Antonio Cruz, Richard Romero, Gilbert Romero, and Noel Romero all of Lorain, Robert "Bobby" Romero of Sheffield Village, and Maico Romero of Port St. Lucie, Florida; grandchildren, Shawn Cruz, Carissa Romero, Alexia Romero, Angelica Romero, Gilbert Paul Romero, Gabriella Romero and Mariah Romero all of Lorain; and great grandson, Shawn Christopher Cruz Jr.; brothers, Agustin Romero and Gilberto Romero both of Aquadilla, Puerto Rico.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Julia Victoria (nee Colon) Romero in March of 2006, his parents, Leon Romero and Alejandrina (nee Nunez) Romero; brother, Angel Romero and Rosario Romero; a sister Estervina Romero.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Monday at 8:45 a.m. followed by mass at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thaden, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
