Shirley Jean Hess (nee Humphrey), 86, of Lorain, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Wheeling Medical Park Hospital, Wheeling, West Virginia, following a lengthy illness.
Born January 11, 1929 in Sheffield Lake, she moved to Wheeling, West Virginia as a young girl. At the age of seventeen, she moved back to Lorain where she lived until recently moving back to Wheeling.
Shirley worked at Oberlin Manor Nursing home for 12 years before retiring in 1991. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Lorain where she helped with Sunday school and other work in the church. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Surviving is her brother, Robert Humphrey of Elyria; and a sister, Ruth Villanova of Wheeling, West Virginia and a grandson, Kevin Hess, of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, George in 2007; a son, Kevin; parents, George and Shirley (nee Rice) Humphrey; a brother, George; and sisters, Lona Polankay and Frances Ridenour.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of services at 11:00 am in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Jay Roller, pastor of Grace Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
