Sonia H. Taylor (nee Garcia). 63, of Lorain, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011 at her residence following a sudden illness.
She was born Nov. 13, 1947 in Humacao, Puerto Rico, coming to Lorain in 1957. Sonia attended various local churches and enjoyed bingo, music, dancing, cooking and spending time with her family.
Surviving are her sons, Jose Ortiz Jr. and David Ortiz, both Texas, and Adam Ortiz of, W.Va.; a daughter, Miriam Ortiz of Lorain; 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; brothers, Juan Torres, Eddie Torres, Benjamin Torres, Rafael Torres, Jacinto Torres Jr., Jose Luis Torres, and Roberto Torres all of Brooklyn, N.Y.; sisters, Ramira Weeks of Lorain, Carmen Torres and Gloria Torres both of Brooklyn, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Augustine Cruz, and Angel Louis Torres; a granddaughter, Leah Patton-Ortiz, and a grandson, Jared Rudolph. She was also preceded in death by her cat, Buddy.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 11:00 am until the time of services at 12:00 pm at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 3900 Clifton Ave., Lorain. Rev. Peter Tower, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, is handling the arrangements
