Stella C. Bertram, (nee Hammond), 89, of Lorain, died Friday, April 27, 2007 at Altercare of Wadsworth Center following a short illness.
She was born March 27, 1918 in Loretta, PA; living in Pittsburgh before coming to Lorain in 1960.
Stella worked at the former St. Joseph Hospital as the director of housekeeping for 17 years, retiring in 1981.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, and the Altar and Rosary Society there.
She enjoyed traveling, gardening and embroidery.
Surviving are her sons, Paul of Wadsworth, and Thomas "Red Dog" of Lorain; a daughter, Janet Lokai of Pompano Beach, FL; 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; brother, Elwood Hammond of Florida; sisters, Jean Wojic of Altoona, PA, and Phyllis Eckenroad of Huntington, PA.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Edward J. Bertram in 1993; a daughters, Helen Guyaux and Donna Mae; a son, William in 1990, a grandson, Edward in 1992; parents, William Hammond and Cecilia (nee Glass) Hammond; brother, William Hammond; sisters, Mary Wojic and Anna Marie Berini.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where a rosary service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday 9:30 a.m. followed by mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N. Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio. Rev. Fr. James R. Ols, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
