Stella A. Rehoreg (nee Radyk), 88 of Sheffield Twp, passed away on Monday, Nov. 1, 2010 at New Hospice Residential Center surrounded by her family.
Born Oct. 8, 1922 in her family home in Sheffield Village, she has been a life long resident of Sheffield Township. Stella graduated from Brookside High School in 1940.
Stella was a founding member St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where she spent countless hours helping with bingo and the church's carnivals. She spent many years at the church rolling thousands of poppy seed and nut rolls with the "Holy Rollers". She was a member and past president of the church's Altar and Rosary Society and a member of the Sheffield Twp Fire Department Blazettes. Stella worked for the Lorain County Board of Elections on Election Day for many years at the Sheffield Twp Fire Department. She also was very active in PTO while her children were in school.
Stella enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting and gardening. She especially enjoyed the holidays, effortlessly making them special for her family.
Surviving is her son, Steve C. "Rickey" of Sheffield Twp.; daughters, Barbara (James) Gula of Sheffield Twp, Marlene Burns and Sharry (John) Burkiewicz both of Sheffield Village; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; brothers, Sam Radyk of Elyria and Nick Radyk of Virginia; and 2 sisters.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Steve "Rickey" Rehoreg, former Sheffield Twp Fire Captain, in 1987; parents, Charles and Justina (nee Sucharyk) Radyk; brothers, Charles and Joe; sisters, Julie Johnson and Helen Madi.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-5 and 7-9 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where the Altar and Rosary Society will conduct a rosary at 3:00 pm. Funeral services will be Friday at 9:30 am in the funeral home, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N. Ridge Rd., Elyria. Rev. Fr. James R. Ols, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made to New Life Hospice, 5255 N. Abbe Rd, Elyria, Ohio 44035 or to Mercy Regional Foundation, Cancer Center, 3700 Kolbe Rd, Lorain, Ohio 44035.
