Stephen D. "Steve" Barlow

Stephen Darnell “Steve” Barlow, age 74, of Lorain, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2021 at his residence following a brief illness.

Born in Texarkana, Arkansas on February 14, 1947, he came to Lorain with his parents as an infant.

For many years, Steve worked and participated in various activities at Lucy Idle Center, Murray Ridge Center and Alpha Adult Care.

Stephen loved riding his bike and was well-known all-over Lorain for his passion.  He also enjoyed visiting fire stations and would often get visits at his home from firemen.  He loved listening to Rock and Roll and shopping with friends.  Fascinated with carousels, Ferris wheels and amusement parks since his he was a young boy, Steve was an expert in knowledge of all three.  Steve’s favorite show to watch was the Three Stooges and could often be seen imitating his favorite character, Curly.  He also liked playing the guitar.

He is survived by his brothers, John (Marylin) Barlow of Cincinnati and Dave (Cecelia) Van Horn of Lorain; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lillie (nee Holcomb) Barlow.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until the time of services at 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain.  Rev. John Jackson, Chaplain of Mercy New Life Hospice will officiate.  Burial will take place privately in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Steve can be made to Diabetes Assoc., 3601 S Green Rd, #100, Cleveland, OH 44122 or to the American Heart Assoc., 300S Riverside Plaza, Suite1200, Chicago, IL 60606-6637.

My sympathies to the family of Steve Barlow.
I had the pleasure of meeting Steve while employed at Murray Ridge. He and I shared a love of carousels and frequently spoke of them. Steve was involved in many of the classes/services /residential camp program offered at Murray Ridge and was a enthusiastic and enjoyable participant.
May He rest in peace
