Stephen Komar, age 80, of Lorain, died on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 following a short illness.
He was born on May 17, 1925 in Lorain where he has lived his entire life.
He was a 1943 graduate of Lorain High School.
Stephen served in the United States Navy during World War II. He earned the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal.
He was employed as a general foreman at CSX Railroad, Toledo until his retirement in 1986. Prior to this he was employed at Fruehauf Trailer Company, Avon Lake, where he was a superintendent and Toledo, Lorain, Fairport Dock Company, Lorain.
He was a member and usher at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, and the Holy Name Society, where he was the former secretary.
He enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing and boating.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years: Mildred ( nee Jachym), son: Thomas, of Lorain, daughters: Cindy Smith, Debbie Grasso, Jane Smith all of Lorain, Sandy Jenkins, of Huron, 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents: John in 1955 and Anna (nee Wojchiechowski) Komar, in 1994 brother: Frank Komar in 2005 and sister: Ganna Panzel in 2005 and daughter: Dennise Sosinski in 2003.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 3, 2006 from 4-8 p.m. at the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where the Holy Name Society will conduct a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Kevin Shemuga, pastor, will officiate. VFW Post #451 will conduct full military honors. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain at a later date.
