Steve Stanchak, Sr., age 76, of Elyria, died on Friday, October 10, 2008, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Avon.
He was born on August 5, 1932 in Nowica, Poland, moving to this area 61 years ago. He started his business, Reliable Auto Body, in 1954. He was owner for 56 years before retiring in 2001. Steve was a member of St. John Ukrainian Catholic Church.
He is survived by his children; Victoria (Steve) Lester, of Elyria, Scott (Deanna) Stanchak, of Elyria, Charlene (Joe) Humphrey, of IN, and Adam (Kay) Cholewinski, of IN. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren, brothers; Jim, of Lorain and John, of WI, a sister, Stefania Rewak, of Lorain, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steve Stanchak, Jr., parents; Michael and Eufrozyna (nee Szmajda) Stanchak, brothers; Pete and Bill, and a sister, Anna Pechovich.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 14, from 4-8 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where a Parastas will be held at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, at 9:30 am, in the funeral home, followed by Divine Liturgy, at 10:00 am, at St. John Ukrainian Catholic Church, 3038 Charleston Avenue, Lorain. The Rev. Fr. Steven Paliwoda, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
