Susan Barbara Huber

December 5, 1914 — February 26, 2005

Susan Barbara Huber (nee Kressman), age 90, of Amherst, died on Saturday, February 26, 2005, at Kingston of Vermilion, after a lengthy illness.


Born on December 5, 1914 in Scranton, PA, she moved to Lorain in 1922. She attended Clearview High School and graduated in 1933 B from Lorain High School. She also studied nursing at City Hospital in Cleveland for 3 years.


Susan was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, where she assisted at Bingo, catering and making pirohi. She was also a member of the Greek Catholic Union.


She was a life member of Ohio Congress P.T.A., and past president of the Amherst P.T.A. Susan was a member of the American Red Cross at Amherst Hospital since 1943 and The Erie Shores Girl Scouts, since 1936, and its' Council Board Committee, a member of the Amherst Homemakers Craft Group, SCOA, the Senior Citizens of Amherst and their tour group, R.S.V.P. of the Senior Citizens Association of Lorain County, and past President of the Easter Seal Society. Susan was also a volunteer at Amherst Hospital since 1962, where she was a Surgical Hostess and Visitor Control personnel. Along with all of this, she was an active member of the Amherst Democratic Association, and worked for the Board of Elections in Amherst. During the 1960's, she was the Voice behind the Talking Christmas Tree at Sheffield Centre.


Surviving her is one son, Gregory A. Huber of Amherst, two daughters; Jolene Rigby, of Hinckley and Saundra Bogardus, of Bainbridge, 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 5 sisters; Anne Towne and Barbara Thomas, both of Lorain, Helen Oros, of Richfield, Margaret Kocorek, of Garland, Texas, and Olga Tymms, of Deltona, Florida, brother; John Kresman, San Diego, California, and many nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Eugene, and her parents, Charles and Barbara (nee Hritsko) Kressman, a brother, Michael Kressman, sisters, Mary and Veronica.


The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., where Parastas will be at 7:00 p.m., in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Nicolas Rachford, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
