Tempa Cleo Vanderpool

May 24, 1923 — June 28, 2008

Tempa Cleo Vanderpool, (nee Bryant), age 85, of Lorain, died on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Amherst Specialty Hospital, following a brief illness.


She was born on May 24, 1923 in Williamsburg, KY and has lived in Lorain most of her life.


She attended Lorain High School.


Tempa was a 38 year member of Faith United Methodist Church, where she was the past president of the woman's missionary group, and secretary and co-chairperson for the LUMM clothing store at the church.


She was a 50 year member of Loyal Order of Moose Lake Erie Chapter 167, and a member of the Eastern Star Queen City Chapter 66 for over 30 years. She was a long time member of the Amherst Eagles, and a member of the Golden Crescent Square Dancers. Tempa was one of the adult leaders for Boy Scout Pack 307, past Vice-President of Hawthorne Boone PTA in the early 1960's, past president of the Lorain High School PTA from 1967 to 1970.


She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially traveling with her husband, having accomplished visiting all 50 states with him. She loved working with crafts, gardening and her flowers. She enjoyed going camping at Camp Wahoo for nearly 30 years and especially sitting around the campfires.


She is survived by her husband of 68 years: Cecil Vanderpool, sons: Vernon R. Vanderpool, of Amherst, James J. Vanderpool of Avon, Paul E. Vanderpool of Virginia, daughter: Kathleen F. Vanderpool, of Lorain, 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren 1 great-great-grandchild, 2 sisters: Lavone Kimble, of Vero Beach, FL and Corene Kiser of Lorain.


She was preceded in death by her parents: James and Cora (nee Richmond) Bryant, brother: John Bryant, sister: Margie Williams, Sarah Box and Lorene Bryant.


The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 from 10:00 until time of service at 12:00 noon at the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Darlene Robinson will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
