Thomas Andrew “Tom” Boyd, age 72, of Lorain, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital following a sudden illness.
Born April 3, 1946 in Elyria, he moved to Lorain in 1973. He was a 1964 graduate of Elyria High School and attended Lorain County Community College. Thomas served in the US Navy.
Thomas and his wife Peggy owned and operated Our Place Video, Our Place Restaurant and Ice Cream Heaven in Lorain for many years. He also worked as a certified mechanic and taught mechanics at Ohio Diesel Tech, Harvey High School and EHOVE. Thomas retired from the Avon Lake Ford Motor Company, where he worked as an assembler. Prior to this, he worked at Lorain Works US Steel in management until the plant closed.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He loved Nascar and was huge fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr. He also enjoyed drag racing, gardening, flowers visiting casinos and traveling. Above all, his love for his family was his priority and joy.
Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Peggy Ann (nee Vargo); a son, James Thomas of Lorain; grandchildren, Chad Boyd, Kaitlyn Boyd, Jessica Surenna and James Surenna; a great grandson, Noah Michael a brother, Ronald Boyd of Grafton; and sisters, Barbara Enders of Michigan and Beverly Miller of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Heather Michelle Buckingham in 2016; his sons, Jessie Surenna in 2007, and Kenny Boyd in 1965; his parents, William Boyd in 1995 and Zelma Boyd in 2005.
