Thomas L. "Pete" Potiowsky, age 81, of Lorain, died on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at Community Health Parnters Hospital and Surgical Center, Lorain, following a brief illness.
He was born on April 19, 1926 in Lorain and has been a lifelong resident. He attended Lorain High School.
He served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was on the USS Washington in the Pacific Ocean and was instrumental in providing research material for a book about the USS Washington.
He retired from US Steel in 1986 as a relief foreman. Prior to that, he was employed at Freuhauft Trailer Co. as a foreman.
He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.
Pete was active in the PACC and Slovak Home. He was also a member of the VFW Post #451 and AMVETS.
He enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
He is survived by his son: Thomas Potiowsky, of Oregon and daughter: Louise Leon of Medford, NJ, 2 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, sisters: Lucy Sedivy and Ann Sauvey, both of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his wife Germaine (nee Mudrock) in 1987, parents: Peter in 1977 and Mary (nee Rakowski) in 1981, sisters: Clara Wolodzko, Connie Schilling, and a brother: John J. in 1986.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 9, 2007 from 4-8 p.m. at the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a 10:00 a.m. mass at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. David Novak, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Full military honors will be held.
