Vernette Mae Super, 73, of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at New Life Hospice, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
She was born on March 27, 1937 in Lorain to the late John J. and Helen M. (nee Kocak) Super. Vernette graduated from Lorain High School and received a Bachelors of Science Degree from Bowling Green State University and a Master's Degree from John Carroll University.
Her devoted carrier as a teacher began in the early 1960's when she traveled to Japan to teach students of American's stationed on the military base there. She returned to teach at Admiral King High School when the new school opened in 1961 until her retirement. Over the many years at Admiral King, Vernette taught thousands of students, specializing in English and American Literature. Besides teaching Honors and Advanced Placement classes, she also served as chairman of the English Department.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Lorain, and the rosary society of the church.
Vernette enjoyed traveling, reading, making doll houses and crafts. She also loved to attend the ballet, theater, and going to see the Cleveland Orchestra.
Surviving is her aunt, Margaret V. (George) Super of Amherst; an uncle, Michael A. (Vilma) Kocak of Lorain; cousins, Michael (Mary Ann) Kocak of Pittsburgh, Joyce (Denis) Kovacevich of Amherst, Douglas (Lynn) Krucinski of Lorain; Kenneth (Elena) Super of Portsmouth, NH, Dr. Dennis (Encie) Super of Shaker Heights, Randall (Liz) Super of Cove, AR; and many friends.
Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her aunts, Ann Mrosko, Mary L. Krucinski.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where a parastas will be held at 5:00 pm. The family will also receive friends on Saturday from 8:00 am until the time of ponahida at 9:00 am. Divine Liturgy will follow at 10:00 am at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 2711 W. 40th St., Lorain. Rev. Fr. Nicholas Rachford, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
