Veronica Irene Ferner (nee Zagorsky), age 93, of Elyria, and formerly of Lorain and Sheffield Village, entered eternal rest on June 1, 2012 at Adult Care by Sandy.
She was born Dec. 7, 1918 in Lorain to the late Andrew and Josephine (nee Sczepankiewicz), and graduated from Lorain High School in 1936.
Veronica was employed by Mail Pouch Tobacco in Wheeling, Smith's Poultry in Lorain and retired from Rolin Plastics in Elyria. For many years, Veronica along with her sisters Tessie Lieb and Helen Hendry were responsible for the wonderful fish fries served at Lorain's Polish American Citizens Club.
In her younger years she and her husband Floyd were accomplished pairs roller skaters and were successful in many competitions.
She was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Parish, Lorain, and the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lorain.
Veronica enjoyed solving crosswords and other puzzles, visiting and family.
Veronica is survived by her devoted son, William (Judy) of Sheffield Village, step-son, Floyd (Shirley), of Glendale, AZ and step-daughter, Mary Lou (Edward) Urban, Amherst, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Ferner was also preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Floyd W. Ferner, in 1986; brothers, Joseph, Frank, Floyd, Edward, Alex, and Stanley; sisters, Helen Hendry, Mary Stitak, Virginia Limes and Teresa Lieb.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 3, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Parish, 2143 Homewood Drive, Lorain. Rev. Fr. John Retar, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
