"So live that when you die, the rich, the poor, the lonely, will mourn the passing of a friend." So was the life of Veronica Sogan Tokarczyk, 94, of Lorain.
Born in a coal mining town of West Virginia, Veronica moved at a young age to Lorain, where she lived her entire life. A woman who took great pride in being a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend, Veronica was not one to worry about material things but rather making sure others had what they needed. Besides her family, Veronica was a nurturer who loved God's earth, and was an avid gardener, living most of her years from the fresh fruits and vegetables of her garden; crocheter, making beautiful things for her family and friends and winning many awards at the Lorain County Fair; a woman who could make any unusual plant grow, blossom and bear fruit; and loved mowing her lawn.
She is survived by what she considered her greatest accomplishments, her children, Joseph Tokarczyk (Beverly) Lorain,; Jim Tokarczyk, Lorain; Judy Tokarczyk Balzer (Dennis) Lorain; and Kathy Tokarczyk Burrows (John), Avon Lake; 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; sister Margaret Taylor; brother Martin Sogan; wonderful neighbors who have been most kind to her including Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dotson and family, Mrs. D.V. Polly and family and the late D.V. Polly, and Carol Puskas and Family; and her wonderful friends who brought her much joy including the employees of Marc's at Midway Mall and The Dollar Tree in Sheffield.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 22, from 6-9 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where prayers will be held Fri. at 9:30 am. Her funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 am, at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035. The Rev. Fr. James R. Ols, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. To send an online condolence, go to
