Victor Kubiak, 93, of Lorain, died Monday, April 16, 2007 at New Life Hospice of St. Joseph, Lorain following a lengthy illness.
He was born June 11, 1913 in Staunton, Illinois. He came to Lorain in 1919, moving to Oberlin as a teenager where he lived a short time before returning to Lorain.
He served in the US Navy during World War II as a Musician Third Class in the Navy Band.
Victor was the owner and operator of City View Salvage Yard in Lorain for 57 years. Prior to that, he worked for Lorain Works US Steel and the American Shipbuilding Co. both in Lorain.
He was an accomplished trumpeter having started at the age of 8. For many years he played in many local bands including the Jimmy Dulio Band.
Surviving is his niece, Vivian Burcl of Amherst; 3 nieces and 1 nephew, great nieces and great nephews and great great-nieces and great great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Ella (nee Gere) in 1982; parents, Stephan Kubiak and Stella (nee Rybarczyk) Kubiak; sisters, Mary Lechowicz, Antoinette Horvath, Jean "Julie" Anthony, Helen Schuesselin, and Josephine McGlaughlin.
Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until closing prayers at noon in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
The Veterans of Foreign War Post 451 and the American Legion Post 30 both of Lorain will conduct military honors.
