Victoria "Vicki" Calabrese

August 31, 1918 — June 22, 2006

Victoria "Vicki" Calabrese (nee Thomas) age 87, of Mesa, AZ, formerly Lorain, Ohio, passed away June 22, 2006, at Hearthstone Care Center in Mesa.


Mrs. Calabrese was born August 31, 1918 in Mahoning Town, PA, coming to Lorain in 1930 and lived here until moving to Mesa in 2000.
Mrs. Calabrese worked for the Elyria Nursery School until her retirement. She has been a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ, Lorain, for sixty-two years, and had served as a deaconess and missionary wife, and traveled extensively nationally and abroad to fellowship with an extended church family. She was also a member of the Ladies Uplift Circle of The Church of Jesus Christ.


She enjoyed children and baking bread.


She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Joseph, 3 daughters Mrs. Isaac (Bonnie) Smith of Pinetop, Arizona, Mrs. Harry (Cheryl) Smith of Pinetop, Arizona, Mrs. Peter (Candace) Genaro of Gallup, New Mexico, 2 sons, Dennis (Anne) Calabrese of St. Michaels, Arizona, and Joel (Edna) Calabrese of Fredonia, PA. She also was "Mom" to nephew Philip Aquilla of North Olmstead, and sister of Anne Lovalvo of Saline, Michigan. There are 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by parents, Frank and Julia (nee DiBacco) Thomas, infant son Kenneth, a sister Christina Taormina, and a brother Dominic Thomas in 2005.


The family will receive friends on Sunday at Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. The family will also receive friends on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ, 27th and Broadway, Lorain. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ, 2655 Broadway, Lorain, 44052.
