Walter was born on August 24, 1937 in Hnyzdychiv, Ukraine. He was the firstborn child of Stephania and Ivan Rozmarynowycz. When he was a small child, his father was taken prisoner in a forced labor camp in Czechoslovakia. After the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, his father was able to return to his family. His father was again forced to return to work as a forced laborer but this time he took his family with him. Toward the end of the war, they fled Eastern Europe to escape Soviet occupation and ended up as displaced persons in Germany.

In 1951, at the age of fourteen, he came to the United States with his parents and siblings and settled in Oberlin, Ohio. After graduating from high school, Walter attended St. John College in Minnesota and Kent State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He taught art at St. Josaphat's Ukrainian Catholic School in Parma and South Amherst Public Schools for several years. He worked at Ford Motor Company at the Lorain Assembly plant for 32 years until he retired this past April.

Walter is survived by his wife of 36 years: Mary (nee Kordupel), whom he met at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Lorain, three children: Cathy, Mark and Rita, all of the home. He was very proud of his children and he loved his wife dearly. Walter had many interests and had a passion for life. He enjoyed reading about many topics and his hobbies included gardening, carpentry, painting and drawing, hiking, fishing and working on cars.

He will be sorely missed by his wife and children as well as his sisters, brothers, cousins, nieces, nephews and in -laws. Walter is survived by his sisters Sr. Maria, OSBM of Rome, Italy, Honya Credi, of Troy, MI, Rosalie Behrens, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Vera, of Sterling Heights, MI, Zenia Rozmarynowycz, of Sterling Heights, MI, Olga Vaughn of Indianapolis, IN and brothers: Peter, of Oberlin, Paul, of Versi, KY, Rev. Fr. Mychail, of Sterling Heights, MI, Basil of Sheffield Village and Uncle Joe.
