Wayne D. Rollason, age 84, of Lorain, died on Friday, February 16, 2007 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on October 13, 1922 in Lorain, and had lived his entire life in Lorain County.
Wayne served in the United States Army during World War II, as a private first class. He was in the 202nd combat engineers during the Battle of the Buldge.
He was a member of the America Legion Post #21, in Elyria, and the VFW Post # 9871, in North Ridgeville. He enjoyed reading, completing word searches, watching t.v. and educating himself and others about the civil war and world history.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gladys (nee Dorsey), son: Jerold Francis of Leesberg, Florida, daughters: Jean Ditzler, of North Ridgeville, Lois Ceol and Joyce Balmert, 18 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and a brother: Grant of Sheffield Lake.
He was preceded in death by a son, William Francis, his parents: Frank and Elsie (nee Heron) Rollason, and a sister, Juanita Witbeck.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, February 24 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Road, Elyria. The Rev. Fr. James Ols, Pastor, will officiate. The Rev. Luis Maldonado, Deacon of St. Joseph, Lorain, will co-officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, where full military honors will be presented by the VFW Post #9871, North Ridgeville.
