Wilfred "Willie" Hernandez, age 65, passed away at home on Friday, May 25, 2018 following a brief illness. Willie was born on December 21, 1952 and grew up in Manhattan, New York before moving to Lorain, Ohio as an adult. He is preceded in death by his father, Julio Hernandez; mother, Carmen Torres; and a brother Julio Hernandez.
Willie leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Betty (Hobbs) Hernandez; children John (Christine) Morris, Angela (Thomas) Thacker who all reside in Lorain, and Brooke Colon who resides in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is also survived by his siblings, Johnny Hernandez, Mildred Perez-Ybarra, Sylvia Colon, and Roberto Hernandez; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Willie graduated from high school in 1969 and went on to serve in the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged. He was retired from Giant Eagle where he worked as a cake decorator for 30 years. He enjoyed tending to his beautiful landscaping and pond in his backyard. He was also happy to relax at home with his wife and their pets. Willie was a joy and fun to be around. He loved his family well and will be deeply missed.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Friendship Animal Protective League of Lorain County, 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, OH 44035 (friendshipapl.org) in Willie's name.
