William Diaz Jr., age 73 of Lorain, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on May 23, 2024.
Born February 17, 1951, to William and Carmen (nee Fonseca) Diaz Sr., in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, William moved to Lorain in the 1950s. He joined the Marines in 1969 during the Vietnam War where he bravely served in combat in the 1st Marine Division earning the rank of Corporal before his honorable discharge in 1970. During his service, William received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Vietnam Service Medal with One Star, Combat Action Ribbon, Rifle Marksmanship Badge and Cross of Gallantry.
Following his enlistment, William worked for Ford at the Cleveland Casting Plant for 30 years, retiring in 2002. He was also a member of the UAW 1250.
He loved riding his motorcycle, fishing, camping, cooking, puzzles as well as his dog Loki. He was also an avid history buff and enjoyed photography.
Surviving are his daughters, Marcella (Raymond) Diaz Southard and Lorraine Diaz; grandchildren, Alonso, Paige, Macy and Brooklyn; great grandchild, Raziel; brothers, David Diaz and Jorge Diaz as well as his sister, Margarita Figueroa.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 4 from 8:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. William Thaden will officiate. Burial with military honors will be held on Wednesday, June 5, promptly at 10:45 a.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville.
