William F. "Fuzzy" Fazekas, age 65, of Amherst, died on Monday, August 29, 2005, at Community Health Partners HSC - West, Lorain, after complicating conditions.
He was born on November 1, 1939 in Lorain, where he has lived his entire life. Bill graduated from Lorain High School in 1957.
Upon graduation from high school at the age of 18, "Fuzzy" was signed by the Cleveland Indians as a "Bonus Baby," after deciding to decline a full-ride scholarship to Kent State University for basketball. He had pitched for the Cleveland Indians Farm Team until a rotator cuff injury prevented him from continuing. When he returned home to Lorain, he remained active in many softball leagues. Bill was also honored to be installed in the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame, where he was later joined by his uncle, Jesse Fazekas, creating a unique, two-generation, family legacy. For the past 47 years, Fuzzy's bat has been recognized as one of the most potent in area softball circles.
