William Resek

William J. “Bill” Resek, age 74, of Newcomerstown, Ohio, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2021, at Hennis Care Centre in Dover, Ohio.

He was born on Saturday, August 31, 1946, in Lorain, Ohio to the late John and Catherine (née Paterson) Resek.  Bill graduated from Lorain High School in 1964 and went on to graduate from the University of Mount Union in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in education.  For the next 35 years, Bill taught English, Speech, Theater, Arts and was head of the English Department at North Olmsted High School, retiring in 2003.  Following his retirement, he moved to Newcomerstown in 2004 where he built his new home and started Three Willows Ranch raising Alpacas. After his time as an Alpaca rancher, he picked up part-time teaching work at Cambridge High School.  After a year at the high school, he was hired full time which turned into a 13-year carrier there.  Following his second retirement as a teacher, Bill didn’t stop working.  He then established I Remember When, an antique shop in Strasburg, Ohio.

Bill believed deeply in treating everyone with compassion and as equals. He made a positive impact on and touched the lives of many people throughout his life and was often his student’s favorite teacher.

He was also very politically minded and was an excellent cook.

Surviving are his children, Cathy Resek and Jeff (Christy) Resek both of Texas; grandchildren, Logan, Brandon and Jason, sister, Janet Reichert of Olmsted Falls, Ohio, 3 nephews and long-time best friend of 37 years David Patton.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 15th from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialist, 2701 Elyria, Avenue, Lorain.  He will be laid to rest privately with his parents in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, Twp.

Janet and all Billy's loved ones. My sincerest sympathy for your great loss. My memories of Billy are many, loving and a whole lot of fun when I was growing up and staying with Aunt Donna. I can still hear his voice and his laugh. Such a great part or my youth. Love, Elaine (Volpe)Barricklow

I had the pleasure of team teaching English with Bill for five years at NOHS. When approached to teach an inclusion class, Bill was most open and receptive to this innovative concept. We learned from each other in a most collaborative way, and enjoyed sharing our knowledge and expertise with our students. He was an exemplary educator and teaching partner. His generosity extended into his retirement on the alpaca farm. When my husbands uncle passed away, he left us with 12 homeless cats.Bill and Dave graciously agreed to provide a home for all of them. We were so grateful! When I shared Bills passing with my children, both expressed their sadness. He was one of their favorite teachers at NOHS and will be remembered fondly.Rest In Peace, Bill.Diane Lekan

I went to Cambridge high school and took part in many of the plays he directed. One of my fondest memories is of him having the cast come out to his house for a bonfire and party after the performances. For a time I even worked on his alpaca farm and put up much of the fencing he had. Mr Resek was a great director and friend, and I'll always remember how much he cared for us all.

I was NOHS Class of '71 and although I moved to DFW for college right after graduation, I remember Mr. Resek well as a respected English teacher who was liked by the students. So very sorry for your loss and deepest condolences to his family.

My condolences to Cathy, Jeff, Janet, David and families. Words cannot express how special Bill was to all of us. I am glad we reconnected after decades so that I could remind him how significant a role he played in my life and that he was responsible for my love of the arts. My memories of him are strong (an many) and his loss is way too early. R.I.P. Mr. R - an extraordinary man who truly left a positive mark in this universe.

Without Bills encouragement & the resulting North Olmsted high school drama college scholarship I might not have made it to Ithaca College & a successful writing career. I will always remember his kindness & generosity.

Heartbreaking news. Mr. Resek was an outstanding teacher and person. He really connected with us students and we all respected him for that. Rest easy Mr. Resek!
