William "Bill" L. Weir, age 79, of Lorain, died on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Kingston of Vermilion, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on March 4, 1930 in Berlin Heights, OH, moving to Lorain County in 1989. He attended Vermilion High School.
Bill served in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he earned the National Service Defense Medal and the Purple Heart.
He was employed for 33 years at Ford Motor Company in the stock dept. retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Local #425. Bill attended Beacon Baptist Church, Lorain.
Bill enjoyed league bowling at Lake Erie Lanes and was an avid pool player.
He is survived by his son, Robert Weir (Nellie), of Lorain, his step-grandson, Freddie Rivera, and 4 step great grandchildren; Austin, Alyjah, Freddie, Jr., and Faith, brothers; Donald Weir of Lorain, and Charles Weir of Atascadero, CA, sister, Carol McFarland of Riverview, CA, and several nieces and nephews. Bill is also survived by a close friend, Ann Wilson, of Kingston of Vermilion.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Stascak in 1998, and his parents; Charles Weir, in 1945, and Margaret (nee Lee), in 1998.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 25, 2009, from 5-7 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Aaron Webb, Pastor of Beacon Baptist Church will officiate.
