William "Waus" Woronchak, age 81, of Elyria, died on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on September 20, 1926 in Lorain, Ohio, where he was a lifelong resident.
He served in the United States Marines from 1942 until 1957 during World War II and the Korean War. While in World War II he served in Okinawa.
William was employed at US Steel, Fruehauf and the American Ship Yards.
He was a member of the River Rats in South Lorain.
He enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, reading, watching Science-Fiction movies and being with his family.
He is survived by his two sisters: Katherine Babich, of Lorain and Anna Rumack, of Elyria and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Rosalia (nee Verestchak) Woronchak, brother and sisters and a niece and nephew.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 from 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, where a parastas service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday in the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Very Rev. Fr. Basil Stoyka, pastor of Ss Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
