Zygmont E. "Zig" Rybarczyk, age 92, of Lorain, died on Sunday, May 8, 2005 at Welcome Nursing Home, Oberlin, gently and peacefully in his sleep.
Born in Murray City, Ohio, he had lived in Lorain since age 2. Mr. Rybarczyk had graduated from Lorain High School and attended Oberlin College. He served in the US Coast Guard Reserves during World War II in ship-to-shore communication.
Mr. Rybarczyk known to everyone as Zig, owned and operated Zig's Food Market at the corner of E. 26th Street and Elyria Avenue in Lorain for 32 years retiring in 1978.
He was a member St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, the Central Businessmen's Association, Lorain Lion's Club, St. Stan's Holy Name Society and the Senior Fellowship Club, He was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus.
A gardener extraordinaire, he was known for frequently delivering baskets of home grown fruits to family and friends.
Survivors include his daughter Gayle Palmer, of Gainesville, Virginia and grandchildren, Kate Sullivan and T.K. Schmidt and sister: Jean Garries of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years: Josephine (nee Nemanic) who died in March of 2005 and 10 sisters and brothers.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 11, 2005 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, E. 28th Street and Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where a rosary will be conducted at 9:00 a.m. by the Holy Name Society of the church.
The funeral mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Fr. Kevin Shemuga, pastor and Rev. William Schill, deacon of St. Stanislaus Church will both officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
